SAFE SLEEP
It is vital that safe sleep is kept in mind at all times.
-
Babies should be placed on their backs to sleep, both at nighttime and at naptime. Research shows that promoting back sleep is known to reduce the risk of SIDS.
-
Babies should be placed on a firm mattress in a certified approved crib: Do not put babies to sleep on a soft mattress or sofa cushion, waterbeds, sheepskins, or other soft surfaces.
-
All loose bedding from the sleep area: Cribs must be clear of all pillows, quilts, stuffed toys, and other soft items. Make sure the baby’s head and face stay uncovered during sleep. Use light sleep clothing.
-
Create a smoke-free environment around babies.
-
Keep babies comfortable during sleep, but not too warm. Too many layers of clothing or blankets can cause your baby to overheat. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends a sleep temperature between 68-72 degrees during sleep time.
-
Remove any potential sleep hazards:
-
Know if a product you own has been recalled, including second-hand products. The best ways to ensure your products are safe are to fill out your product registration card and check for recalls at www.recalls.gov.
-
Cords can pose strangulation hazards to children, whether they are connected to blinds or baby monitors. Keep cords tied up and out of reach of children and remember to keep cribs away from cords that can be reached while inside the crib.
-
-
Please always check with the American Academy of Pediatrics for any updated safe sleep guidelines.
This section outlines the different stages of working with Smart Night Sleep and what happens in each stage.
1.Smart Night Sleep Intake Form
Once you submit the intake form online, I will receive a copy. I will take the time to evaluate the intake form before our planning session. The intake form will help me gain further understanding on your child(ren) situation and their home environment.
It is vital that you are as thorough as possible on the intake form so that I can put together a personalized sleep plan for your child(ren) so that it will be successful. The more information I have about your child's sleep situation, the easier it will be for me to help you during our planning session, create a personalized sleep plan and reach our sleep goals.
2. Hour Planning Session
During this call, we will further discuss the intake form and any additional information you might want to share, if it was not already included in the intake form. I will then provide you with a verbal sleep and feeding plan, which we will discuss at length. You will be able to share your opinion regarding the plan and we can make any changes to it before I send you the finalized written personalized plan to implement. We will discuss the sleep plan based on your child’s needs and discuss scheduling follow-up calls for the bundle duration. I will email you a written plan, within 24 hours, for you to review and for reference.
3. Support Calls, Emails and Sleep Log
Sleep training will only be successful if we communicate on a daily basis to insure that the plan is being implemented properly and to troubleshoot any unforeseen circumstances that may affect your child’s sleep results. Throughout the day ,we will be communicating through the Sleep/Feed log, as I check this at least twice a day, so there is always communication. Follow up calls must be scheduled in advance.
I often work with a few families at a time and I want to provide each family with the attention they deserve. If you need to chat on any particular day that we have not scheduled a call on, kindly email me. If I am available to chat, I will let you know my availability.
4.Desired Outcome
Depending on your child’s situation, it can take anywhere from a couple of days to a month to see your desired outcome. Please be patient with how quickly your child progresses. Please keep in mind that we have to undo months of sleep habits. Patience and consistency are vital so your child can gain healthy sleep habits and a healthy relationship with sleep. I provide my clients the support they need to attain that. It is my belief that my job is not complete until your child is a better sleeper, providing you are 100% consistent with the implementation of the sleep plan as lined out in the sleep plan.
5. Access To My Office Hours
In between our calls, it is more than likely that you will have further questions that come up from time to time. I recommend you use the sleep log first. If it is a detailed question, please send an email, I will respond ASAP but within 24 hours. If it is an urgent question, please text, I will respond at my earliest convenience.
While I can usually return an email and a text, I cannot always answer the phone, as I may be working with other families. I make myself available via email to answer all questions, during normal business hours, which are: Monday through Sunday: 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM EST.
Please note I do not schedule calls on weekends. Typically, I am quick to respond to any questions in the above format.
6. Personal Responsibility
This is an extensive step-by-step program. I will work with you during step through the process to help you teach your child how to have a healthy relationship with sleep. It is my intention to give you a plan to help your child get all the rest they need. However, it is vital to understand that it is your responsibility to allow me to do my job to give you the results we decide upon.
Teaching a child healthy sleep is a collaborative effort between all of the caretakers and SMart Night Sleep, and each of us has personal responsibility throughout the process. I am not here to dictate anything about your parenting skills. I am here to use my educated, experienced sleep skills and to guide you to improve your child’s sleep and help you get the results you are looking for. I will always give you my honest opinion about your situation and guide you in what I feel is best for you and your little one(s) in teaching them to become great sleepers, and explain why that is so, even if it may be a stretch for you.
The daily routine will have an impact on the sleep training process. Often, changes can be out of our control. If you inform me of any changes or stress in the home then I will be able to work around them with you and your little one. When everyone is on the same page, we can find a solution or, I can find a work around, or even incorporate it into the program.
